HEALTHY LIVING

Hop on board and get excited about Healthy Living!

Research has shown that an active lifestyle does not reverse the detrimental effects of unhealthy eating choices.  Equipped with this information, let’s makes some changes that can make a long term difference for all of us.

Our mission is to encourage a lifestyle of healthy living.  Our first goal is to reduce the amount of junk food in the school and to replace it with healthier alternatives.  As such, students are asked to refrain from bringing chips, chocolate, marshmallows and candy to school.  We encourage them to bring fresh fruits and vegetables for snacks!  We also encourage students to drink water instead of juice.

For children and teens to grow up healthy, it’s important they are physically active and eat healthy foods every day.

To help children develop habits that will last a lifetime, an active, healthy lifestyle must start early in life. Healthy living has numerous benefits for everyone:

  • keep heart and lungs strong and healthy
  • become more flexible
  • develop strong bones
  • lower the risk of several diseases and health problems
  • improve their mood and self-esteem
  • be more successful in school
  • feel better about their bodies

Another initiative at our school is that, once a week, the entire school goes for a “Healthy Living Walk”.  We value the idea of making time to get some fresh air and moving around.

Students learn about and discuss the idea of healthy living with their classroom and Physical Education teachers on a regular basis.  They learn that the body needs proper nutrients to ensure optimal concentration and performance.

There are several vital components involved in living a healthy lifestyle.  Living a healthy lifestyle requires:

  • proper care of the mind
  • proper care of the body
  • proper dietary choices

Let’s all make it a priority to take care of ourselves and teach our children to do the same.
