IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
Why Choose the IB Primary Years Programme?
St. Anthony Elementary is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) School and prides itself on the teaching done through this framework.
What does it mean to be a PYP IB school? PYP is the start of a lifelong learning journey which encourages children to be caring, responsible, inquiring, and knowledgeable about the world we live in. The students will learn through hands-on experiences, student-led inquiries, and will develop a real understanding of the curriculum they are being taught. This means they become more confident to ask questions, think critically, and become well-rounded individuals. Our students are then fully prepared for the next step on their journey.
IB Green
The students at St Anthony Elementary School must be prepared to work at building peace in their world by studying the social conditions in their environment and by using what they have learned in school in day-to-day living.
Taking action and Community Service extends the focus beyond the classroom and encourages responsible, caring participation in one’s local setting and in the wider world. Through firsthand experience, the student learns how other people live while contributing something of benefit.
Students should demonstrate commitment and curiosity through their activities. Students should be creative in their pursuits.
Taking action involves the students, voluntarily, performing a task that will respond to a problem and benefit a segment of their community, be it in the family, the school, the neighbourhood, or the world.
We strongly encourage students to take action, whether big or small! Parents are encouraged to notify the principal, the IB coordinator or homeroom teacher of any action taken by their child so we can recognize their effort with the entire school community. To this end, we have created a “Taking Action” printable form that is available on our website.
